Airbus and Bombardier Announce C Series Partnership

Combined potential within the 100-150 seat market of more than 6,000 new aircraft over the next 20 years

Amsterdam / Montreal, October 16, 2017: Airbus SE and Bombardier Inc. are to become partners on the C Series aircraft program. A corresponding agreement was signed today.  The agreement brings together Airbus’ global reach and scale with Bombardier’s newest, state-of-the-art jet aircraft family, positioning both partners to fully unlock the value of the C Series platform and create significant new value for customers, suppliers, employees and shareholders.

Under the agreement, Airbus will provide procurement, sales and marketing, and customer support expertise to the C Series Aircraft Limited Partnership (CSALP), the entity that manufactures and sells the C Series. At closing, Airbus will acquire a 50.01% interest in CSALP. Bombardier and Investissement Québec (IQ) will own approximately 31% and 19% respectively.

CSALP’s headquarters and primary assembly line and related functions will remain in Québec, with the support of Airbus’ global reach and scale. Airbus’ global industrial footprint will expand with the Final Assembly Line in Canada and additional C Series production at Airbus’ manufacturing site in Alabama, U.S. This strengthening of the program and global cooperation will have positive effects on Québec and Canadian aerospace operations.

The single aisle market is a key growth driver, representing 70% of the expected global future demand for aircraft. Ranging from 100 to 150 seats, the C Series is highly complementary to Airbus’ existing single aisle aircraft portfolio, which focuses on the higher end of the single-aisle business (150-240 seats). The world class sales, marketing and support networks that Airbus brings into the venture are expected to strengthen and accelerate the C Series’ commercial momentum.  Additionally, Airbus’ supply chain expertise is expected to generate significant C Series production cost savings.

Bombardier Receives a Second Environmental Product Declaration for its C Series Aircraft, Confirming its Unmatched Environmental Performance

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced today at the Global Sustainable Aviation Summit in Geneva the publication of the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD®) for the CS300 aircraft. The news was made public one year after the CS100 aircraft received the same certification. No other aircraft manufacturer discloses the full environmental impact of their products.

The EPD®, which is based on verified Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) data, discloses information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products and, thus provides the basis for a fair comparison of products and services vis-à-vis their environmental performance. Last year, Bombardier selected a CS100 aircraft for the first-ever EPD®, and this year, a Bombardier CS300 was chosen for the exercise.

The C Series aircraft has an unmatched fuel efficiency of as little as two litres of fuel per 100 km per passenger*. This means that over its operational lifespan, each C Series aircraft is expected to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions released to the atmosphere by up to 120,000 tonnes compared to other closest-sized airliners. That is equivalent to taking more than 32,000 mid-sized cars off the road for a year. The C Series aircraft`s noise signature is comparable to smaller airliners, such as regional aircraft, making it an ideal solution for urban operations and the most community-friendly aircraft in the small single-aisle category.

Bombardier CS300 Jetliner Awarded FAA Type Validation 

Montréal, December 14, 2016: Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced today that its CS300 airliner has been awarded its Type Validation by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This most recent approval means that both the CS300 aircraft and the smaller CS100 aircraft are now approved by Transport Canada, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the FAA.

The FAA recently conducted an operational evaluation on the CS100 and CS300 aircraft and determined that both aircraft will share the same pilot type rating — allowing operators to benefit from significant cost-saving opportunities.

“These airworthiness validations by international authorities recognize the exhaustive process and work done by Bombardier, in conjunction with Transport Canada, who awarded the C Series aircraft their original aircraft type approvals,” said François Caza, Vice President, Product Development and Chief Engineer and Head of Bombardier’s Design Approval Organization. “C Series aircraft combine new materials, new manufacturing processes and new design philosophies, which are fully recognized through the completion of these validations by major international authorities.”

Bombardier CS300: Canadian Certification Awarded

First aircraft to airBaltic scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2016

Montréal, July 11, 2016: Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced today that its CS300 aircraft has been awarded Type Certification by Transport Canada. Delivery of the first CS300 airliner to airBaltic of Latvia is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2016; the aircraft is currently in production at the C Series production facility in Mirabel, Québec. The approval follows the CS100 aircraft Type Certification awarded by Transport Canada and validations for that aircraft model by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“The CS300 aircraft certification process was very straightforward because of the over 99 per cent commonality with the CS100 model,” said Robert Dewar, Vice President, C Series Aircraft Program, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “The C Series flight test program covered more than 5,000 hours and most of the data obtained covered both models. “We are delighted that operators will be getting C Series aircraft that have exceeded expectations, in particular on airfield performance,” Mr. Dewar added. “We can now confirm a range improvement in excess of 20 per cent out of hot-and-high airports such as Denver, Mexico City or Lhasa.”

Bombardier Delivers First C Series Aircraft to Launch Operator SWISS

Montréal, June 29, 2016: Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced the delivery of the first   C Series CS100 aircraft. The historic handover to launch operator Swiss was celebrated during a special event with SWISS and Bombardier’s employees alongside government representatives, suppliers and media. “SWISS is proud to be the first airline to take title of the C Series – the world’s newest, innovative and technologically advanced aircraft. The aircraft performed exceptionally well during its acceptance flight, as expected,” said Thomas Klühr, Chief Executive Officer, SWISS. “Along with the CS300 aircraft that we’ve also ordered, the C Series fleet will allow us to perfectly tailor our capacity to demand on various European routes, while providing an excellent travel experience for our passengers.

The first CS100 aircraft is scheduled to enter service with SWISS on July 15, 2016 with its maiden commercial flight taking passengers from Zurich to Paris-Charles de Gaulle. SWISS will gradually replace its Avro RJ100 fleet with the C Series aircraft. Additional C Series aircraft will be used to replace other existing aircraft as well as permit moderate future growth. Bombardier: Sale of Amphibious Aircraft Program to Viking Air

Montréal June 20, 2016: Bombardier announced today that it has reached a definitive agreement for the sale of its Amphibious Aircraft program to British Columbia-based Viking Air Limited. The agreement covers the Type Certificates for all variants of the aircraft, the CL-215, the CL-215T and the Bombardier 415 aircraft as well as after-market services. The completion of this transaction is subject to the approval of all required governmental and regulatory authorities and the fulfillment of other customary closing conditions.

Bombardier’s amphibious aircraft are emblematic of Canada and are the backbone of many firefighting operations around the world. The Bombardier 415 was launched in 1994 and drew on the success of the earlier CL-215 and CL-215T versions to establish itself as the only purposely built and best firefighting aircraft in the world. Close to 170 Bombardier amphibious aircraft are in service worldwide.

Delta Air Lines and Bombardier Sign Largest C Series order for up to 125 Aircraft

Montréal, April 28, 2016: Bombardier Commercial Aircraft and Delta Air Lines, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia (Delta Air Lines) announced today that the parties have executed a firm agreement for the sale and purchase of 75 CS100 aircraft with options for an additional 50 CS100 aircraft. Delta Air Lines may elect to convert a number of these aircraft into CS300 at a later date. Based on the list price of the CS100 aircraft, the firm order is valued at approximately $5.6 billion US.

C Series: European Route-proving Concluded

Montréal, Canada, March 23, 2016:  Bombardier announced today that the European Route-proving Program with C Series aircraft is concluded. The program was conducted in the network of launch operator Swiss and included over 30 city-pair flights in European cities over a three-week long period.

“Considering that Bombardier inserted the CS100 aircraft into a number of the network operations we currently service, the route-proving program provided us with a real indication of how the C Series will operate in our route system when we take delivery of our first CS100 aircraft in June,” said Peter Wojahn, Chief Technical Officer, Swiss International Air Lines. “As the launch customer and the first airline to operate the C Series aircraft, we are very pleased and impressed with the results.”

“Testing important performance targets using real-life routes is an excellent indication of how reliable the aircraft will be when it flies in the SWISS network,” said Rob Dewar, Vice President, C Series Aircraft Program, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “We’re also delighted that the flying public in Europe, who will ultimately be amongst the first in the world to fly aboard the aircraft, got a chance to see it operating in prime cities over the past few weeks, as we took the opportunity to show the aircraft to a few European airlines.”

The CS100 aircraft conducted flights using typical airline flight routings and operational procedures but with no passengers on board. The flights provided data about the C Series aircraft’s performance in a typical airline schedule to and from different airports. Airfield performance, landings, airport turnarounds and on-ground operations are some of the important characteristics that were observed. The results are aligned with previous observations and confirm that the C Series aircraft is meeting or exceeding original targets. The European route-proving program followed one conducted last year across North America that included more than 35 cities.

The month-long program is underway with a dedicated CS100 route-proving aircraft operated by Bombardier from Zurich, the home base of launch operator Swiss. The route-proving exercises are scheduled to include main European cities. Additionally, Bombardier also confirmed that the last of eight flight test vehicles – the second CS300 aircraft – successfully entered the flight test program in Mirabel, Québec last week. The European route-proving program is being conducted as SWISS readies for the CS100 aircraft’s entry-into-service. The airline’s first CS100 aircraft is scheduled to be delivered by Bombardier in Q2 2016.

Air Canada Orders up to 75 Bombardier C Series Aircraft

Montréal, February 17, 2016: Bombardier Commercial Aircraft and Air Canada announced today that the parties have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the sale and purchase of 45 CS300 aircraft with options for an additional 30 CS300 aircraft, which also includes conversion rights to CS100 aircraft. Air Canada will become the first North American mainline, international network carrier for the C Series family of aircraft. Based on the list price of the CS300 aircraft, a firm order for 45 would be valued at approximately US $3.8 billion.
